Hey crazy thought but being a teenager isn't all pretty makeup and pool parties and movie theatres and the way we're taught to look up to it as younger kids is disgusting and needs to change
Life as a child is bullshit. Homework is bullshit. Not being listened to or taken seriously is bullshit. Getting your private stories shared to all your mum's friends for a cheap laugh over wine without your permission is bullshit. Being forced into a system that teaches discipline before learning, and achievement before individuality is bullshit. Life as a child is fucking bullshit so what do you do? You complain. You throw tantrums before school and you kick adults who make you do things you don't want to and you yell and scream and shout "No!!" and what does it get you? "You're just causing a fuss for no reason. Once you're a teenager you can party all you want, now go sit down shut up do your work don't complain"
So. Time rolls around and boom you're a teenager now! Great! Is your life filled with pretty dresses and crushes and prom? Oh wait, it's the same shit as before except now you're labelled as rebellious and are thrown head first into a corrupt system and expected to know every key that makes the cogs turn to earn you a million dollars in a day. Great.
Anyway. Kids are getting cheated out of a future they deserve and the second they try complain about it are met with "if you're obedient and don't question anything you'll succeed" and I'm fucking sick of it. I see any of this shit again it's on sight

I fucking hate the “explaining = invalidating” when it comes to apologies. Yes, sometimes a person means to invalidate you by saying this, but sometimes we genuinely just want to fucking explain our side so we can properly communicate.
I do not know what the fuck is wrong until I’m told what I’ve done wrong and feel the need to explain in order for us to see both of our sides
I like getting explanations with apologies because for me it helps lessen the damage that was done or can help clear the negative emotions.
I’ve had multiple people say it’s a sign that I’m a bad person that I don’t apologize right away, or that I’m giving excuses instead of owning up and apologizing (which is fucking hard for me to know if I’m actually in the wrong or not and people doing this shit does NOT fucking help). Apologies aren’t always just a “Sorry” one and done deal thing.
knowing that someone didn't mean to harm you, and in fact may have been trying to help, can be comforting! knowing how they came to choose actions that harmed you can help you both collaborate to avoid harm in the future! Knowing whats going on in the mind of your loved ones can be important and bring you closer together in times of possible conflict!
An explanation is NOT an excuse, thats true, but that also means that someone explaining doesn't mean they're not ALSO trying to apologize on top of that!

As an eye doctor, this shouldn't be controversial. It's a problem. 5 years ago, nighttime headlight issues were reserved for people with cataracts or LASIK scars. Today, everyone has problems seeing the road through the oncoming headlights. People are getting anti-glare and blueblocking coatings not bc they are sitting on a computer 8+ hours a day but bc the blue tinted halogens are making them feel unsafe to drive. We are selling insane amounts of yellow tinted nighttime driving glasses even though they're really only for people with cataracts bc ppl are desperate for anything that may help them deal with the headlights. I've had multiple patients tell me they just don't drive at night anymore.
This is an actual safety issue and it needs to be addressed

cool bug facts
-adhd and autism arent the same
-people with adhd are still allistic
-people with adhd can still be ableist to people with autism (and people with autism can still be ableist to people with physical disabilities but thats another post)
-people with adhd absolutely cannot reclaim the r slur
-people with adhd talk over autistic people all the time, and this needs to be adressed
-you shouldn’t put your posts about adhd in the autism tag unless the post involves autism as well
-don’t use the actuallyautistic tag if you arent autistic. full stop. i dont care if you have adhd and think autistics can relate to your post. the tag is not for you.
-people with adhd often act like they have sooo much in common with autistics but the second you see a high support autistic person you distance yourselves from us. you dont want to be like us when we aren’t palatable to you.
-hyperfixations are not a medical term. hyperfocus is, but thats not the same
-restricted interests + special interests are a thing looked at when diagnosing autism.
-hyperfixations and special interests are NOT THE SAME.
-furthermore, people with adhd can’t use the term special interest.
-AUTISM MEMES ARENT FOR YOU EVEN IF YOU HAVE ADHD

Adults are so entitled. "Why won't vulnerable children disclose their age for everyone to see so ageists and sexual predators can exploit their vulnerability and target harassment towards them? Because of their safety? But what about my irrational disgust for those who are younger than me?"

Ok!! It is Rant O’clock in the Library!
Here is why you should stop saying “I hate kids” completely and utterly, no matter your feelings around them. Like, I can’t stop you from disliking kids, and as long as you’re not taking it out on random kids and you’re taking care to never be in a situation where you are in charge of kids then the damage is minimized.
But stop saying it because it is deeply deeply ageist. This is a whole class of human being, of which you were assuredly part of at one point in time. There is no way that you hate every single child who ever was or ever will be. I hope you don’t hate your child self.
But also. Would you go around saying “I hate black people” or “I hate women”? No, you’d rightly be labeled a racist or misogynist if you did and be ostracized in polite society. So why is it ok to do this to children, arguably the most oppressed class of people in the world?
Children have, functionally, no rights in their own person. They are entirely at the control of their parents, or the state, or their care takers. Often they cannot so much as choose what to wear or how to style their hair (gosh, wasn’t there rioting in the streets in Iran over this? Maybe kids should take to the streets). Children are allowed to be paid less, they are routinely disbelieved in their own experiences, and children have almost no way to escape abusive situations. Children are infantilized, dismissed, degraded, and exploited all around the world, to greater and lesser degrees.
But here’s the thing. Humanity is not magically bestowed on you the day you turn 18 (or 16 or 21 or or or, we can’t even universally agree on specific ages). You are fully human from the day you are born, and there are certain basic human rights you are entitled to by virtue of simply…being a person. But somehow we have decided that because children need certain additional protections to allow them to grow and develop and thrive, that means they are not entitled to full personhood. (Now where have I heard that rhetoric before? Oh yea, the disabled community says hi.) Needing additional accommodations does not strip you of your basic human rights.
So no, speaking disparagingly or hatefully about children as a class of people is not “a personal choice” or “fun and hip” or whatever. It’s violence against children, the same way saying “I hate gay people” is violence against the queer community. Because any place you say that there is the possibility of a child hearing it. Yes even in adult spaces. Children have been wriggling into adult spaces since time began (and that’s a different rant). Your listeners may also include a parent or caretaker or aunt or someone who just loves a child, and now they know that you are not only not safe for that child, but probably not safe for them, because you think it’s ok to strip the humanity from a class of people based on a single characteristic they cannot change.
Everyone starts out as a child. Everyone. Be kind to your own past child self, the children around you, and the people who love a child by not using hateful language to talk about them.

let me rephrase myself more concisely (deleted my original post)
- She didn’t queerbait you, she revealed a song title then immediately explained the heterosexual meaning behind it— if anything she kindly spared you being strung along
- Real people cannot queerbait you, queerbaiting is something tv writers do. A real person DOES NOT have a writer God planning out their life, assigning them storylines and traits.
- straight people are allowed to wear stylish clothes and do things that are stereotypically “gay” and even have gay sex and enjoy it and none of that means they are lgbt! We gain literally nothing from policing this shit.
- ”lavender haze” is a real expression originating in the 1950’s meaning to be deep in love. The urban dictionary entry that you will find on Googling the phrase was posted in 2009. Taylor said she heard it on an episode of Mad Men(critically acclaimed tv show set in the 1960’s) The episode in question is Season 2 Episode 12, which aired in 2008. The character being described as in a lavender haze was Don Draper, a straight man. It’s difficult to do much research right now without getting just articles about Taylor Swift, but clearly the term is a) not particularly queer b) probably something that was said as early as the 1960’s in a straight context if Mad Men’s historical accuracy is anything we can trust
- it’s true that lavender has been used as a symbol and euphemism for queerness, HOWEVER it is equally true that one word can have multiple meanings
- Taylor Swift has NEVER explicitly stated she was gay or bi. She has however stated repeatedly that she is straight. Now you can speculate on whether that’s true or not, but you cannot be angry with her when you do not know her fucking life. Read the reputation liner notes again please I beg of you. Even if she is gay or bi for real, she still doesn’t owe you shit.
- even if Taylor is sapphic/has had gay sex or gay relationships in the past, it is extremely biphobic to assume that requires Joe Alwyn to be a beard (not to mention rude and presumptuous)
- She didn’t say “gay rumors”, she said “weird rumors”, which could mean anything but even if she was in fact talking about gaylors: you all fucking deserve to be called weird for picking through pap photos and making massive “timelines” and theorizing about Kaylor basement babies, this is clownery and you should feel embarrassed
